Some people think that people who destroy public property should be punished by community service instead of other punishments, such as paying a fine and going to prison. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
雅思的加试总是会出现一些不寻常的情况，有些时候是非常难，但有些时候也很简单，同时也可能出现之前完全没有考过的大作文题目或者对之前考过的大作文题目做比较大的改动。今天这个题目就是这样，在过去的三年当中并没有考过这个题目的原题，但之前雅思有讨论过说：青少年儿童毁坏了学校或公共设施之后，他们没有被送进监狱，而是去扫大街，这件事情你怎么看？其实当时的这个题目就是今天考的这个题目的一个母题。
首先来看做义工的好处主要有两个方面：
做义工更具有教育意义，当事人可以通过这个方式了解其他相关人员的负担，加深对自己造成的对公共财产的损害和不良受后果的认知并进行反省。同时让其参与到社区建设中，也能培养其社会公德心。
当事人如果只是被判罚金和坐牢，其所造成的破坏并没有得到修复，因此可以让当事人通过义工的形式去弥补自己造成的损失。
但是所有以上讨论范畴应该限定在当事人造成的损失并不大的情况下，如果当事人造成了重大财产损失，甚至于威胁到了公共安全，诸如破坏公共交通，那么理应进行赔偿，甚至于判处服刑等惩罚。这样的处罚对于当事人及其他人会有更大的震慑作用，加大犯罪成本，能够防止其再犯或者减少潜在的违法行为。如果没有被处罚，人们就会有侥幸心理，觉得这不是一个值得他们去重视的事情。

An appropriate punishment to those who destroy public property is always a heated topic among the public. People argue whether community service is a proper punishment for the destruction of property. This essay will discuss why people tolerate such an offense by only requiring offenders to do community service and whether they should be suffering more serious judgment such as seal in jail.
On the one hand, society is humanely treating the action of undermining public assets. People considered those who damaged the public property did not really realize what the consequence they have to face. Graffiti, for example, some commit it for fun or even just want to show his or her courage to their peers.
On the other hand, it seems over protecting is a common phenomenon in some nations. A light punishment and a minor crime cost may encourage those offenders to commit another crime. Take a young boy who destroyed his school, published in a newspaper, as an example. Instead of sending to jail or being fined, this boy was requested to clean the street. However, most community services cannot scare criminals, and they are more likely to re-offend. This is because offenders and other potential offenders do not see any deterrent effects from the penalty of serving the public. Under such circumstances, public places, such as museums and parks, may suffer more.
In conclusion, although people have to consider many aspects, some particular crime is necessary to deal with severely.
